Squad List 2005/06

1. Andy Webb

Andy signed last summer after a long and arduous transfer from his local club side which was settled a Wokingham tribunal. Since he has signed he has proved what ability he has got with some stunning displays, contributing to the miserly sum of only 9 goals conceded in the league last season.

Mark Dickson

“Dicko” has arguably the largest hands at Ashridge. Controversial at times, Dicko likes to train and improve his game all the time. Always willing and committed to the cause. His European style of Goalkeeping keeps us all guessing.

2. Jon-Marc Spatcher

Jon has been a familiar face at the club for a number of years now. His hard-work and direct approach have made him a favourite. Happy to score one goal a season Jon is ready and willing at all times. Never one to stop running, I hope “the engine” has his best years ahead of him.

3. David Barley

Ever dependable Barley is a player who has been with the club for many years. He is a very versatile player plying his trade both at sweeper, centre back and wing-back. Barley has the added ingredient of being a left footer. Committed and aggressive, a solid player all round.

4. Gareth Soden

Gaz is a classic defenders defender. A no nonsense style player who like to get stuck in. Gaz has excellent distribution and awareness. Fitness is his main weakness, which I am sure will improve over the summer and bring him more success in the coming season.

5. James Brannan

Brannon has been training with the club on numerous occasions. His obvious size, power and speed made him a recognised figure in Sunday leagues as a striker, but his talents at this level have proved to be far more suited to centre back. Has developed leaps and bounds over the summer and all are confident of a successful debut season.

6. Ben Gautrey

A very technical and bohemiam player, Bens attributes are not always appreciated. As a player he is solid with a good shot and an excellent range of passing. Likened to the style of Jan Moby, Ben has the ability to unlock a defence standing still.

7. Chris Hayter

The driving force of the team, Hayter displayed last season exactly what he can do, notching an impressive goal tally with over 20 goals from midfield. His all action displays particularly last season, brought Hayter the honour of players player at this years APFC awards.

8. John Hughes

John enjoyed his first full season in a long while last year. The team soon realised what a talented player he is which is matched by some much needed steel. John has proved to be an excellent foil in holding midfield.

9. Ian Bateman

The talismanic figure of Bateman still send shivers down the spines of defenders in the area. Bateman has scored well over 300 goals in his total Ashridge career. His main weapon being his sheer brute strength and bullet like shot – from anywhere.

10. Mark Shoosmith

Young Mark picked up last year where he left off. Finished last year top goal scorer at Ashridge. His diminutive appearance is deceiving as he often cuts through defences like a hot knife through butter. Tricky and skilful Mark has the talent to beat any defender.

11. Ian Gerrard

A leggy and skilful player, “Gerrard” has proved to be one of the most consistent and exciting players at the club. Renowned for his agility and ungainly African style Gerrard has established himself as a highly regarded player at the club. Destined to score a wonder goal next season.

12. Ian Griffiths

“Griffo” has been an integral part of the squad for a number of years. His attacking flair and technical ability proved that Saturday league is his level. Griff notched an impressive goal ratio last season and is rumoured to be the best finisher at the club. Griffo notched his first award last season winning players player runner up 2005.

13. Ben Stone

Initially signed as a left back under the guidance of Ferguson and Murray, Stone was somewhat of a journey man. Leaving managers and fans distraught due to his renegade style, it was soon realised that Stones best work was done off the pitch. Guiding the club to silverware in both seasons, Stone is hoping to build a legacy of love and total football.

14. Adam Shoosmith

Elder Shoosmith has lead the line for many years at Ashridge notching an impressive tally of goals along the way. His technique and movement are his forte. Injured for most of last season, I am sure he will be return this year back to his best.

15. Andy Sweet

Andy has risen through the Ashridge ranks as a talented young left sided player. His touch and awareness brought him to the attention of the management team here at Ashridge. Full of technique the young wide man is hoping to make a big impact at Ashridge this season.

16. Richard Gerrard

Richard is a true team player, always available and always willing to play. His versatility has been a bonus since signing in 2004. Looking to play more games as a central defender, it will be interesting to see how this experienced head develops.

17. Iain Murray (captain)

Re-instated club captain, Iain Murray has once again proved how valuable a player he is both on and off the pitch. His organisational skills and direct approach make him a favourite with players and fans alike. His experience and drive make him an integral part of the team. Murray also picked up Managers Player of the year 2005, for his work off and on the pitch.

18. David Ackroyd

Ackroyd is undoubtedly the most exciting player at the club. Known affectionately as “twinkle shins” Ackroyd’s skill is a unique style which brings him mixed success. Still a very raw talent, how much application and learning will have a bearing on his success and progress this year.

19. Matt Cox

Coxy has been a regular for a number of years now. His sheer size and stature make him a popular figure at the back. Renowned for his Laurent Blanc surges from the back, Coxy, likes to tackle and tackle fair. A true Gent.
